Try Something New, Spice up Your Life
I guess you would have tried something new at one point in your life or the other. I can also guess that for most of the new things you have tried up until now you didn’t plan for it, it just happened.
It could be that a friend pushed you into doing it or maybe you were in an environment that conditioned you to try it. In this piece, I will like to talk to you more about trying new things intentionally.
Before we continue, can you think of some of the new things you have ever tried?
For me, it was learning how to ride a bicycle and a car in my second year in the university, learning how to swim in my final year at the university, trying out some new delicacies from the eastern part of Nigeria during my National Youth Service year in Lagos State Nigeria,…but to mention a few.
Trying something new does a lot for us and influences our growth.
Are you thinking of how trying something new is tied to your growth? Sit down, relax, grab a cup of Frappuccino and read till the end.
Your Growth
Growth majorly happens when we take on things that we have never tried before.
Let’s paint a scenario of a student who was in primary school 5 years ago and is now in secondary school, what do you think happened to him? GROWTH
This growth will be in some areas which could be mentally, physically, emotionally… But the major thing I want us to consider here is that by the virtue of the educational and cultural system, he was made to do things he had never done before.
If he used to know the 6 multiplication times table in primary school, when he got to secondary school they must have introduced the 13 multiplication times table to him. This must have facilitated his growth from being someone who knew 6 multiplication times table to a person who now knows 13 multiplication times table.
Can you see what I am trying to show you?
We may dread trying new things especially when it has to do with personal development because we think we may fail at it, but that’s not the point. The point is that you keep trying until you win at it. In the process of trying you learn and expose yourself to the knowledge you wouldn’t have had if you won the first time.
If you want to grow you have to try something new.
- Learn a skill you have never learnt before.
2. Hone a skill you already have.
3. Register for a paid event you have never attended.
4. Reach out to someone you have always looked up to.
5. Set a goal you have never crushed before.
JUST TRY SOMETHING NEW INTENTIONALLY.
Trying New Things Expands The Possibility in Your Mind
When you tread a path you have never trod before, it exposes you to possibilities such that the things you used to think were impossible or out of reach becomes so easy to get.
The possibility in your mind is a direct expression of where you are now. If you don’t ever see it in your mind and acknowledge a level of possibility you will never become or experience it.
Trying New Things Helps You Discover Your Self More
“There is a popular saying that goes, you never know until you try”
There are some potentials or character traits in us that are recessive and until there is a right environment for it, it won’t come to light.
A person might think they have a low IQ because they are not good with numbers. When they take an IQ test that excludes mathematics, they then realize that they have a high IQ with logical reasoning.
You will never know until you try so, TRY!
Spice Up Your Life
Break out of the norm, create an outline experience in your life to have fun and enjoy. Go to parties you have never attended, offer to take your friends out, go on a vacation, organize a close show for your friends just do something new to have fun.
We all love to have fun. We all have different definitions of fun which is perfectly okay. Whatever fun might mean for you just do it.
Try something new today and grow your capacity
I’m rooting for you.
