From Deep Within, I See You – A Poem for Every African Woman’s Silent Strength”
(Dedicated to every beautiful African woman walking through silent storms, your strength is seen, your light still shines.)
I am that African child,
With dreams rooted in the African soil.
I grew up to become a strong African woman.
My parents raised me,
The streets shaped me,
Life’s seasons moulded me..
And in the process, I found myself.
I have loved deeply.
I have been heartbroken.
I have danced with joy,
And sat quietly in pain.
I have known laughter,
And I have known silence.
I’ve been tired,
I’ve been lonely,
But I’ve also been grateful.
I’ve walked through trials,
Faced denials,
And smiled through the disappointments.
I’ve made peace with my fears,
And turned my tears into strength.
I’ve been called names,
I’ve been misunderstood,
Yet, I’ve learned that my beauty
Isn’t measured by what others see,
But by the woman I’ve become.
There were days my heart felt too heavy for my body.
Days I prayed to wake from what felt like a dream too painful to bear.
But there were also days my soul overflowed with joy,
When love and peace filled me to the brim.
I have been used and undervalued,
But never broken.
I have faced rejection and still found reasons to rise.
My story isn’t perfect,
But it is powerful, because I’m still standing.
Sometimes, behind the smiles you see,
Are hearts that ache in silence.
So pause, and ask,
How are you really doing?
Your care might be the light someone needs today.
And maybe one day,
When you feel too weary to keep going,
Someone will look into your eyes and say:
“You are not alone. I see you. You matter.”
